The Mary D.B.T. Semans Gardens
When we celebrated our 100th Anniversary, we embarked on embarked on an expansive plan to make our 4.5 acres of grounds and gardens a place of wonder and delight, befitting the history of Duke Mansion itself. With the support of generous donors and the artistry of Laurie Durden, the garden designer, today Duke Mansion gardens are open to explore and enjoy.
Stroll our gardens surrounded by majestic and historic trees, year-round blooms, and the splendor of a beautiful garden. Find a quiet nook to relax, watch pollinators in action, sip your wine or coffee or read a book.

We are very proud that Duke Endowment allowed us to recognize their generous support by naming the ground in honor of Mary. D.B.T. Semans. Mrs. Semans was a true force of nature in North Carolina and a leader of Duke Endowment for 55 years. You can see her impact across our state. She was also a great lover of gardens.
